Step 1:Oracle install client (never succeeded with that, not recommended) or Oracle client (succeeded on Win7 ultimate 64bit, file win64_11gR1_client.zip, installed with "Runtime" option selected). After client install make sure you can connect. From command line try "tnsping yourtnanamesentry" to check if tnsnames is ok, and after that "sqlplus username/pwd@yourtnsnamesentry" to check if you know valid user and password and really can connect. Memorize or write down oracle home name and path you choosed during install.
Install Oracle 10g Release 2 Odac 64 Bit
I'm not sure if Step 1 is really needed or not, because maybe step3 really uses just oracle instant client.I know, it is real pain, but this works. It took me 2 days to connect to oracle, and I had to install almost 1GB of downloaded oracle software. They could and should make that much, much, much, much easier. Like one-click install that just works. This is shame how complicated client install is.
Wonderful article. This has fixed my issue after i install and uninstall oracle 32bit and oracle 64bit clients. I am glad that we don't need the 32bit Oracle client after all (as in other blog indicated). I have apply this to SQL2012 x64 with Oracle 11gr2 x64.
We are currently facing the problem with building 64 Bit SSIS pacakages(located on DB Server..which is 2003 Server Edition, 64 Bit) with connecting 32 bit oracle(loaded on the App Server..Windows 2003, 32 bit) in Business Intelligent Development Studio(Integration Services) with Sql Server 2005 64 Bit. We have installed 64 bit Oracle client and network tools and drivers on Database Server(DB Server), but we are still unable to connect from to Oracle from the BIDS for making the 64 bit SSIS packages.
You can execute Oracle Migration Workbench from a 32-bit Windows environment to migrate third-party databases, as supported by release 9.2.0.2.1 or later, to an Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2) database installed on a 64-bit Windows computer.
They provide support for .NET Framework 2.0 and higher, and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. These components were released after the original Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1), that is the reason they require ODAC installation.
The steps in the following two sections assume you've installed the ODAC 18.x files to the c:\oracle64 folder for 64-bit versions of Power BI Desktop, or to the c:\oracle32 folder for the 32-bit versions of Power BI Desktop. Follow these steps to register Unmanaged ODP.NET:
Working on getting my oracle connections to work again. We were running SQL Server 2012 and using VS2010 and I had all my SSIS projects working just fine. Upgrading the SQL server to 2014 is require us to update VS to 2013 so we can keep working with SSIS. The problem is now SSIS no longer connects to Oracle.I know for the SQL 2012/VS2010 combination all i had to install with the ODTwithODBC for Oracle and optionally the AttunitySSISAdaptor and it was working wonderfully.Any help will be appreciated.
I have installed ODAC 11.2.0.3 64 bit on local machine and i have oracle client 11.2.0.3 installed on my local machine moreover OraOLEDB.oracle installed on SQL server. After the installation SQL server also rebooted but i am not able to see oracle OLEDB provider under the SSDT_BI tools (SSIS) for OLEDB source. Thanks in advance
I am facing same issue in my laptop 64 bit, I installed Visual studio 2015 and relevant SSDT set up but I cannot connect to oracle data base can some help me is resolving this by providing step by step by procedure
